The idea of forming an organization of fencing federations in Asia was brought about by Colonel Houshmand ALMASSI, who was then the President of the Iranian Fencing Federation. He submitted the proposed Constitution of the “Fencing Confederation of Asia” to the FIE Congress which was held during the 1972 Munich Olympic Games in Germany . Colonel Almassi became the first President of the FCA.
The second FCA Congress was held during the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran , with the presence of Mr. Pierre Ferri and Edgar Mercier, President and Secretary General of the FIE, respectively.
After the first Asian Fencing Championships was held in 1973 in Tehran , however, fencing in the continent did not proceed actively enough. It was only during the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, when the other fencing federations in Asia decided to reconstitute the organization with the formation of the ASIAN FENCING CONFEDERATION.
Elected as first President of the FCA was Mr. TU MINGDE from China. He served the FCA for two terms from 1988 – 1992, and from 1993 – 1996. Mr. CHANG YOUNG SOO from Korea was the second President of the FCA also serving two terms of office from 1997 – 2000, and from 2001 – 2004. The incumbent President of the FCA is Mr. CELSO L. DAYRIT from the Philippines who was elected to serve the term of office from 2005 – 2008, 2009 – 2012, 2013 – 2016 and was re-elected for another term of office from 2017 – 2020.
